Davi Rabelo
The Good Shepherd (O Bom Pastor)
This version of the iconic image of the Good Shepherd is reinterpreted as the shepherd characterized as a rural worker from a Brazilian countryside tending his sheep. It also takes inspiration from the novel “Vidas Secas” (Barren Lifes) by Graciliano Ramos, in which a family of migrants is fleeting from severe drought, in search of food, land, and shelter. However, here the Shepherd is the shade that protects from the harsh sun. His humble appearance is contrasted with the universe that he carries under his cape. “Eu sou tua Sombra” means “I am your shadow” and is a direct reference to Psalm 121.
